Midweek Reflections in the Journey of Making His Words at Home in Our Hearts!

September’s “His Words at Home in my Heart” theme is “Harvest” and many verses talk about the harvest being part of the enduring rhythm of creation, of day & night, summer & winter, cold & heat, and seed time & harvest. God uses the harvest, as provision, not only for the farmer and his family, but also for the poor and foreigner, by instructing farmers to not harvest to the edges of the fields, so that those in need can glean for themselves, and thus be provided for.

Also, some verses showed the connection between when His people praised Him and walked in His ways, their harvest was a blessing, compared to when His people chose to do wrong and ignore Him, their harvest reflected that too, showing there’s a cause & effect.

Then, there is also another kind of harvest that is not referring to vegetables or grain. In Hebrews 12:11, it says, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it!” You know the new habits, technology, or skills we’ve had to learn in work, play and life? Well, they are often difficult to learn, frustrating to figure out, or overwhelming to become skilled in. But with perseverance, discipline, repetition and not giving up, they’ve yielded a harvest of reward and growth.

However, I think this verse is talking about something even a bit deeper than learning a new technology, job, or sport…the focus is more on our heart and our faith. Hebrews 12 starts out by encouraging us to, “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles us and run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” When we focus on Jesus, remembering His love and what He went through for us, we can resist sin, and grow in our love for God. Choosing His way over our way, isn’t always easy and can be a struggle, and even painful, but, if we don’t give up, it will produce a “harvest of righteousness and peace.”

And that is a harvest worth reaping!!

It’s not too late to jump in and journey along with us!! You can find the September list of Bible Verses to handwrite in the His Words at Home in our Hearts section of my website.

Blessings to you!!
